Light to Last

Thanksgiving and Handover Ceremony

The room was dim, and the hall was filled with quiet - a stillness that is breathtaking and filled with anticipation. The silence seemed to have overtaken the moment.  By means of one flame, the darkness was broken, and through the light, the truth was revealed.

The room was dim, and the hall was filled with quiet - a stillness that is breathtaking and filled with anticipation. The silence seemed to have overtaken the moment.  By means of one flame, the darkness was broken, and through the light, the truth was revealed.

The room was dim, and the hall was filled with quiet.

This was one of the heralding highlights of the event during the Wycliffe Philippines’ Thanksgiving and Handover Ceremony, a reminder that hope still and will continue to shine through followers of God who are fighting the good fight of faith and striving to lead others to find the light in the dark despairing conditions of this world.

For 15 years, Wycliffe Bible Translators Philippines (WBTP) has wholeheartedly pursued the Great Commission's sacred mission.

For the past 15 years, Wycliffe Bible Translators Philippines (WBTP) has been passionately dedicating itself to the call of the Great Commission. The pulse of the organization is to bring light to the community of the Bibleless and witness their transformation. Whenever there is a needy person who has come to know Christ, the sweat and tears of the organization’s field workers are rewardingly paid off. It has always been their igniting faith to carry on the divine task that makes the Bible translation ministry possible.

The entire organization faces change with constant determination and faith.

Now that new leadership is set to commence in this sector of WBTP, the entire organization faces the change with constant determination and faith that the same God who went through with them in the past, will be the same God who will go with them from hereon. The third quarter of this year marked a significant shift in operations as the tenure of the former WP Field Director, Monie Chiong, came to an end. Celebrated last June 13, 2023, WBTP had its Thanksgiving and Handover Ceremony at the SIL Function Hall in Horseshoe Village, Quezon City, to officially recognize his contribution as an outgoing leader, and to inspiringly encourage the incoming set of field directors namely Dalmas Binwag, Jehu Cayaon, and Joemar Cabading as Field Operations Director of Projects, Church, and Scripture engagement respectively.

The night became even more special with the heartfelt remarks delivered by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edith Sola, and the participation of its mission partners: the Summer Institute of Linguistics of the Philippines (SILP), Philippines Bible Society (PBS), Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP), Faith Comes by Hearing (FCBH), Youth With A Mission (YWAM), and several churches represented by their leaders.

Heartfelt remarks were delivered by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edith Sola

the Bugkalot Language group performed an exceptional cultural dance.

People were left astounded to witness the exceptional cultural dance of the Bugkalot Language group who gracefully executed their custom for people to see the richness of their culture.   Acknowledgment and Recognition also became a significant part of the program and among those who were commended were the Consultants, Consultants-in-training, Interns and Volunteers.

Although an era has ended, a new season is yet to begin. WBTP is ready to start another chapter where determination, persistence, and faith continue to hone. The light from the Almighty, which was passed down to them, is set to guide them to the new path that they still will take. As the light will continue to shepherd them, it has been their duty as well to safeguard the light and pass it to the ones who still are dwelling in the shadows.

Matthew 5:14-16 says:

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jesus inspired no other than his followers to be the light themselves, and it is WBTP’s inspiration to carry this light to the communities so they may see the hope they have in God.
