Batak

The Batak people, believed to be the original Filipino ancestors, are indigenous to the Philippines, with their name thought to originate from the Cuyunon term for mountain people.

Traditionally semi-nomadic, the Batak relied on collecting food from the rich forest and rivers of Northern Palawan, practicing a harmonious blend of cultivation, hunting, gathering, and fishing. While they were eventually introduced to Christianity by missionaries, the Batak have retained many of their animist beliefs, underscoring the unique tapestry of their culture and heritage interwoven with their language and origins.
