Ibalatok

Balatok is a place and ibalatok are the people residing in Balatok. The Ibalatok/balatoc tribe—a distinctive indigenous community with its own rich history, socio-political structure, and unique customs.

The tribe's livelihood revolves around communal forest areas, serving as hunting grounds, sources of timber, and meeting various community needs. Additionally, rivers and brooks are essential for fishing, domestic use, and irrigation, while rice fields ('payaw') and agricultural orchards ('fa-ang') contribute to the community's sustenance. Despite facing challenges from mining prospects, the Ibalatoc people maintain their strong connection to the land, marked by communal and privately owned spaces, embodying their cultural resilience.
