Isinay

The name "Isinay" originates from the prefix "i," signifying "native" or "people of," and "sinai," which is believed to be an early settlement in northern Luzon.

The Isinay were previously known as Inmeas and Malaates, but neighboring groups, such as the Italon, Bugkalot, and Ibaloy, gave them the name "Isinay." Their trade language is often used for business transactions, but they prefer conversing in their own language. Few Isinay people are literate, and many maintain traditional beliefs, relying on shamans for blessings and healing. Culturally, they are skilled in various arts, including weaving, music instrument crafting, and sculpture. Agriculture, particularly rice production, remains their main economic activity.
