Tagibulos

Tagibulos, the language of the Dumagat people in Dibut, is a unique tongue believed to have its roots in the Dumagat and Agta communities of Quezon.

Regrettably, fluent speakers of this language are becoming increasingly scarce, with most of them belonging to the older generations. This language's dwindling use can be attributed to various factors, including Dumagat parents teaching their children Tagalog in anticipation of school instruction, interplay with children from other ethnolinguistic backgrounds, and intermarriage, which often leads to the adoption of Tagalog for better mutual understanding. Nonetheless, those who still speak Dumagat take immense pride in their language, considering it a shared linguistic thread among Dumagat and Agta groups. Traditional Dumagat life was centered around hunting and gathering, emphasizing immediate consumption, with no concept of currency or trade. Present-day Dumagats in Dibut primarily rely on fishing, especially rod fishing (Pangangawil), to sustain their families and make a living.
